Summer 2016 Democracy Now! Professional Development

Knowyourmedia: The Know your Media Professional Development blog features lessons designed by New York City Public School teachers participating in the Democracy Now! Education Professional Development course. These blog posts are the final assignments in the course. The media’s ubiquitous presence demands students’ attention. The ability to navigate and make sense of this labyrinth is essential, not only to engaged citizenship, but in order for students to contextualize and integrate the information they receive in the classroom. Lessons that are featured here are valuable examples of how teachers can include critical thinking and media literacy as they teach students to question, critique and investigate the media they consume.
